Phantom Fx studio is looking for a Senior Pipeline TD with experience in VFX production and has a deep desire to maintain and evolve an innovative and efficient pipeline. Technical Directors work closely with the Pipeline Lead & Supervisor to develop new tools and processes as well as support existing tools and processes. We are a highly collaborative studio that is constantly evolving the way we work and coming up with new tools to help push what we can achieve.
Technology Department is responsible for developing and maintaining software tools, providing support and general troubleshooting of the VFX pipeline and bringing in new technologies, tools in a fast-paced, feature film visual effects production environment. The primary focus is ensuring artist efficiency. Receives day-to-day direction and priorities from VFX Supervisor & Dept supervisors; reports to stakeholders for technical and career guidance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain infrastructure tools and workflows to enable the studio to meet business and production goals.
- Provide front-line production support across a wide range of disciplines, troubleshoot assets and shots, and help the team with general problem-solving. Monitor email requests, user tickets, package up problems and redirect to the appropriate developer.
- Develop and maintain pipeline tools and workflows to enable artist efficiency and meet production demands.
- Deploy and manage software and hardware needs for production and business.
- Document workflow, processes and tools that enable technical staff and artists to keep up-to-date and share knowledge.
- Collaborate with the Department TDs, Pipeline TDs, and Pipeline Developers to troubleshoot problems and implement solutions that are directly related to the Studio.
- Acts as a point of contact for Supervisors and Production Management to resolve pipeline and workflow issues that are affecting artists and shows.
- Improve the efficiency of software development life cycle by appropriate sprint planning, sprint retrospectives, testing, and setting appropriate software metrics for performance.
- Identify day-to-day priorities in conjunction with show supervisors and producers while being able to act autonomously.
- Assist junior Pipeline TDs in providing front-line support; resolve complex user errors; guide Pipeline Engineers and R&D with debugging technical issues..
- Work together & assist HRD in Manpower hiring for Technology dept, Interviewing the prospective Candidate, and ensuring proper onboarding and knowledge handoff via established training guidelines.
- Present and demonstrate the stakeholders about new tools, updates in pipeline tools through periodic meetings
- Mentoring, Guiding, doing upskill training for the overall Technology team.
- Any ad hoc tasks

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computational Media, Computing Science or related field
- 5+ years of experience in the job offered or related production technology position.
- Strong python background, c++ and other programming languages
- Ability to learn new programming languages a must
- Strong understanding of the VFX pipeline
- Strong desire to build tools for artists, solve problems, and innovate
- Ability to support artists in all disciplines
- Enjoys being challenged and can handle fast-paced production needs
- Understands software development principles, unit testing, data structures and agile workflows
- Basic understanding of computer systems, linux, windows, sys admin
- Ability to pivot with ease
